Using pirated sites to watch anime is ok if you can't afford to pay?

Look, I get it, sometimes those subscription fees can be a bit steep for our wallets, especially for broke college students or struggling people. But let's not kid ourselves here: piracy is still piracy, no matter how you slice it. It might seem harmless to stream a few episodes of your favorite anime on a sketchy website, but think about the bigger picture. Every time you click that illegal link, you're essentially robbing the creators of their hard-earned cash.

I think most people's argument these days is more about the availability of their favorite shows, and how there's like 6000 different streaming platforms nowadays. It feels like every other show you'd want to watch is on a different streaming service. That redundancy is what people don't want to pay for.

Plus, plenty of shows aren't streamed anywhere, be it due to popularity, age, or a myriad of other reasons. How else am I supposed to watch them? Buying a $40 DVD? For something I might not even like? No thanks.

I mean I'm pretty if you are gonna make me pay for 2000 streaming services and $400 DVD with 7 days shipping and a DVD player to watch Skelter heaven or something Im not gonna watch it.

Also I do think its fair too, look, money isn't as accessible as most think since the majority of the worlds as there are people in countries with a weaker income or are stuck in the evil hands of the educating system since they don't really have to suffer the inflated price.

Even worse for manga as well, since about 95% is simply region locked

If this isn't a bait thread, then I agree with your premise. The problem really is there is no personal incentive for Users who resort to piracy to simply change their Anime viewing habits.

Even some who claim to be the most Hardcore of fans of this medium just don't give a shit if the industry as a whole would one day collapse "if" it was due to piracy.

This has been abundantly clear to me since I ended up joining MAL as a registered member when I found out just how wide spread and public Anime piracy and torrents are in the West, specifically in this community.

Just because I can pay for something does not mean I want to and no one can tell me otherwise.

Permit: I can do whatever I want and there's nothing you can do about it.

People that watch along side someone who is paying, watching on TV etc also dont pay. It is a complete non issue. Pirates are part of the success of the anime industry. I do think if someone can afford it for something they like they should put money to the manga, light novel, anime, visual novel, mobile games and merchandising if they like those and have money to spare if the money goes to the right people. But it also is an issue in the industry and some general products some things are ridiculously overpriced so they hold back on people being able to buy things.

No point in paying for streaming services that are inferior to torrents and free websites. I can't even screenshot on Crunchyroll no more so of course people would pirate.
Hidive is basically useless everywhere outside North America.
Netflix is Netflix
And Hulu lmao.

Piracy hurts the streaming service not the creators anyway so what's the problem?

Are you kidding me right now? These comments are making my blood boil. How can so many people be so damn ignorant? You're all just a bunch of leeches, sucking the life out of the anime industry because you're too cheap to pay for content. You think you're clever using those illegal sites, but in reality, you're just a bunch of pathetic poeple who can't own up to their own wrongdoing. It's disgusting.

It another make business out these sites. That I learn when I download songs to mp3.

For example in my country (Romania), u cant watch anime only on Netflix, where u can find a small collection (like 50 - max 100 series), u can watch on Disney+, HBO MAX and prime video, where u can find in all of them 5 or 10 series. I have money to pay if, idk, crunchy wants to move here (we already have crunchyroll but only with english subs), but until this moment, i need to be a pirate. And its ok to pirate, like if im an evangelion fan and i talk abt evangelion with my friends, they will pay netflix to watch it, so it makes money.

I think it's pretty normal for people to use illegal streaming websites.
How would I watch some specific series?
In my experience, if you're a fan of something you will then buy merchandise/originals.
Also, I don't think the industry is hurt by piracy, it is the contrary.

Especially since the crunchyroll releases are censored, have cut content, often are only available for a limited period of time (good luck finding any obscure anime that once was on crunchyroll, they're long gone and will probably never return), and don't feature the bluray-only improvements to animation.

Why the fuck would I pay for crunchyroll when it's inferior in every way to pirated bluray encodes? Lmfao. Dumb people will keep patting themselves on the back for "supporting" the industry by using crunchyroll. They probably believe their 1 vote for Trump will change the results of the election. Oh, sweet summer childs.

Using pirated sites to watch anime is ok in any context
Who are you and why do you show your hostility towards a complete stranger whom you've not once spoken with before. Are you seriously asking to get blocked? Well, if that's what your intent is; to tempt me into throwing hands with someone as lowly and insignificant as you, then i may grant your wish provided you articulate yourself a bit better when trying to spite a person of my wavelength.

If you're gonna pirate, why on earth are you "streaming on pirate sites" instead of downloading? The main advantage of pirating is being able to play it offline on any device using any media player you want with your preferred fansubs. I pay for CR yet I don't actually watch anything there simply because web video players are shit.

@BigBoyAdvance What you're spouting is straight-up nonsense. Advocating for piracy like it's some kind of noble cause? Nah, that's not gonna fly. It's like saying it's okay to rob a store just because you don't like their prices. It's stealing, plain and simple.

Sure, Crunchyroll might not be perfect, but that doesn't give anyone the right to steal content. Supporting legal streaming services is crucial for the industry's survival, and pirating just hurts everyone in the long run. Plus, your comparison to voting for Trump changing election results? Totally out of line, dude.

If I can't afford it, I don't watch it.

I think theft is always wrong, but at least I can somewhat forgive it if we're talking about necessities like food or clothes.

But stealing a luxury like entertainment? Can't be justified.

1 vote can't change the election. But if everyone decides to vote trump, the election can be changed. Its just like, you think one person paying or not paying for subscription won't change anything. But if everyone stops paying for anime because they think the same thing as you, then what do you think happens to the anime industry?

I also use pirate sites from time to time, but it doesn't mean I don't acknowledge the importance of payment.

When you’ve got as many people on here with hundreds of titles watched of course there’s no way they’re paying for all of that. I pay for the stuff I really like or the stuff that was on sale when RightStuf existed(damn you CrunchyRoll) but I DL the rest.

Just out of curiosity how do you feel about fansubs, for unlicensed anime specifically?

@Zimmu Btw, I'll spoiler the truth for you: an individual's decision to vote or not has no effect on other people's decision to vote or not. An individual's words do have an effect on other people's decision to vote or not. Therefore an individual's vote is pretty much meaningless (literally a drop in the ocean).

@cyandaqil Fansubs, particularly for unlicensed anime, evoke mixed feelings. They undoubtedly serve as a bridge for fans who lack access to official translations, fostering a global community around anime. However, their existence also raises ethical and legal concerns. On one hand, they provide an avenue for fans to enjoy content that might not otherwise be available to them. Yet, on the other hand, they infringe upon the rights of creators and licensed distributors, potentially undermining the industry's sustainability.

Pirates are either saying you should buy DVDs to support the creators instead of subscribing to streaming services.

Or buying DVDs isn't worth it, as they are too expensive...
