I know what you're talking about but I don't think there still is redlight districts in France. Unless a few specific streets and spots in a whole city count.
I can't speak for other countries, but here there is a law that punishes the clients. The consequence is that less people go to prostitutes, and to make a living said prostitutes have to accept creepy or potentially dangerous clients they could have avoided otherwise. Supposedly this law is for fighting against prostitution (because ALL people in this activity are victims who were forced into it, of couuuuurse) but in reality it just puts these people at more and more risk of getting attacked and killed.
That, and when a prostitute gets murdered the cops and judicial system usually won't try too hard.
At least they unionized, which makes it easier to get heard than if they all were isolated, but their situation still is very precarious.

*rubs temples* "I worked in a porn shop for a good half year before I was let go (I scared some of the regulars, defending my self from a belligerent client. So I had to be let go) I met all types while working there. And I'm not gonna lie. I learned something about them. They're good people. They're just, not puritans. I honestly HATE the fact here in the states they're looked down upon for using what nature gave them.

You and I, man. I genuinely don't understand why some people hate prostitution so much. That's litterally a job, but since it's about sex it should be disregarded? That's just plain stupid.
And yeah, that argument according to which no one would prostitute themselves unless forced is utter bullshit. Unfortunately that's politicians' main argument, and so many people just buy it from ignorance. Like, I don't know, maybe LISTEN TO THE ONES WHO ACTUALLY WORK THAT JOB???
