Daily life was hard, Ray knew it well, but to calm his daily restlessness he made the most of the free time he had for his escape from monotony and stress, video games. He had put a strong interest in the games on his Switch, especially Animal Crossing New Horizons. He had put many hours into it, to the point of unlocking everything, absolutely everything. He had visited the neighbors at least once more out of habit than to unlock something new in the game. Even after completing it, he did not lose the habit of spending at least 20 minutes a day farming resources and taking care of his island. Despite everything, Ray still loved the game, loved its characters and was not bothered by this cycle. He could start a New Game with another character and start from scratch, again, but this island he had made in his last game seemed perfect to him, he had obtained the neighbors he wanted by exploring islands without having used Amiboo cards, he had gathered the complete collection of fish and how he wanted it, and in general he had obtained everything honorably and without shortcuts that other players offered for real money. Simply perfect.
After his farming routine he saved the game and turned off the console, preparing to sleep and go to work early tomorrow. As he let sleep consume him he thought about the game and his favorite neighbors, the last one he saw in his mind was Whitney. Then he did not take long to fall asleep. Already in the Kingdom of Morpheus he saw a scene, it was a glamorous albino wolf arguing with a large eagle with a strong body and prominent muscles, everything ended with the wolf breaking into tears and running away, leaving the bird man heartbroken in front of a cliff under the sunset sun on an island.
When he opened his eyes he found it strange that his cell phone didn't wake him up nor did his neighbors arguing over nonsense early in the morning, no, everything was too quiet and peaceful. He saw that he wasn't in his usual apartment either but in a different room, with many more things and also more valuable and expensive than the goods he used to live his day to day. He stood up and to his surprise he saw that his body was different, he stood in front of the full-length mirror and to his surprise he looked like his character in the game!! It was an average male avatar that he had made to look like him. Was he dreaming? Maybe. He pinched his cheek and the pain was real, he could feel the burning of his skin, the soft sensation of the carpet under his bare feet, the polished and well-kept wood of the walls. Everything felt real and very alive. He didn't know how but he was inside his game. Far from getting into existential and metaphysical dilemmas about understanding perceptible reality, he began to celebrate in his room. He dressed in his favorite outfit and went down to his living room where his things were, the ones he had worked hard to farm to get. He went to his kitchen, because he had made one, and when he checked the fridge he saw that it was full of groceries, more food than he had seen in years, since he left his parents' house. After having a breakfast worthy of a king, he left his house, he felt like he was in a dream because he saw in the flesh both his island and his favorite neighbors with whom he had found and forged a strong friendship. He greeted them with enthusiasm and emotion, the fascinating thing is that they acted in a more complex way, as if they were real people from his world. With each interaction, a simply incredible day went by, returning home and having a great sumptuous dinner. That was how he went to bed and soon fell asleep, hoping that this was nothing more than a dream. While he was dreaming he saw another scene, it was Whitney, wearing a beautiful white summer dress that matched her immaculate fur while carrying a parasol with floral motifs, she looked melancholic looking at the sunset. In his dream she asked him not to cry, asking the reason for his sorrow, but this tragic scene ended with Jay waking up in his house. To his emotion he was still in the game. After cleaning up and having breakfast the sad vision of Whitney was still in his mind. He remembered that she was one of his neighbors on his island, but the strange thing was that he had not seen her in his frenzy yesterday. He left his house and while talking and socializing with everyone he asked them about Whitney, the strange thing was that they did not know that name or that neighbor. Ray was sure that she lived on his island, and to check it he went to where her house was, in the northernmost part of the island and on top of a hill. On his way he came across Isabelle, but she was a bit different, with an empty and somewhat distant look, she greeted Ray and after talking about a couple of banalities she warned the human not to go to that house, or else his visit to this paradise would become permanent. The little dog left happy and jumping, as if the threat was nothing more than a joke. Ray did not pay attention and continued on his way to Whitney's house, and when he arrived he did not stop.He expected this, the beautiful albino house was in ruins and the windows were boarded up. Looking to find out more, Ray forced the door open and inside he saw that the decor was exactly the same, but it was full of dust and worn down by neglect and oblivion. The human searched the entire place and found nothing, except in the bedroom. There he found a mannequin wearing a beautiful Whitney dress, fresh and very clean, as if inviting whoever looked at it to put it on. Ray used all his willpower to ignore the seductive invitation of the garment. But when he looked at the full-length mirror he was condemned. In his reflection he saw himself as the sophisticated white wolf who wore that dress. When he saw himself he saw that he was wearing it. When did he put it on? He tried to take it off, but the clothes seemed stuck to his body. In his struggle he approached the mirror and without realizing it he ran into it, passing through it as if it were a portal.
As she stood up, Whitney looked at her beautiful room in surprise. Why had she fallen? She didn't know. Then she received a message from her boyfriend Apollo on her cell phone. He was waiting for her in the square in front of the city hall to go on a date. As excited as she was, she got dressed up while wagging her tail. She put on her best dress and left her house looking very pretty and stunning. As she made her way to her date, she greeted the neighbors and friends she had made since she moved in, especially Isabelle, who greeted her very pretty and reminded her that the summer festival was near. Whitney thanked her for the reminder and continued on her way. But as she turned her back on the assistant she heard her murmur "enjoy your new life with us, Ray." Whitney turned around raising an eyebrow. Who was Ray? The name sounded familiar. Was she forgetting something? Never mind. She ignored that thorn in her mind and preferred to meet her dream man. And there he was, the big eagle with broad muscles and a serious character, Apollo. Whitney winked at him with confidence and flirtation worthy of a Lady, she asked him if she had kept him waiting, her partner denied it because he had just arrived, so they both headed to the beach. On their way Whitney saw an old house near the town hall, very battered and with the windows boarded up, it was surrounded by warnings and a sign that said it was going to be demolished. Whitney felt very nostalgic, that house seemed familiar to her, what if she went there and saw what was inside? She was going to look at it closer until Apollo grabbed her leg, begging her not to go, her partner's pleading eyes melted her heart and Whitney hugged her boyfriend, letting herself be carried away by his comforting masculine and protective affection. The date was incredible and Apollo had been quite the gentleman, soon Whitney got ready to sleep and while looking at herself in the mirror she declared to her reflection "I am happy like this and I want to stay like this", as if crushing any last opposition that would fight to be who she was now. The next day Whitney went out for a walk wearing a beautiful floral-themed dress while carrying a matching parasol, as she walked she saw that they were demolishing the abandoned house, at first she felt an emptiness in her heart, as if she had lost one last chance, but for what? She didn't care. She looked at herself in the reflection of a window, it was Whitney, and she was happy.
